Runs in the Family – Deen Small Engine Repair Serving Riverview For Over A Decade
Deen Small Engine Repair and Machining is run by a grandfather and grandson duo, Walter Smith and his business partner Blake Falloon. They have been servicing Riverview and it’s surrounding areas for over a decade.
The owner Walter, moved from Scotland to Manitoba with his family in 1972 and eventually made his way to Riverview in 1988 which he now calls home. As a young man, Walter was an engineering apprentice and attended various trades colleges specializing in textile machinery; after 5 years he attained journeyman status. During his apprenticeship, he worked alongside his father who was his biggest inspiration.
“My father was a tradesman and he used to work in a munitions factory during the Second World War as a tool setter. He taught me so much and that’s how machines became a big interest to me” explained Walter.
One of the places Walter worked was Heritage Textiles, formally known as Tandem Fabrics in Moncton. After several years in his field working at many different textile plants, he decided he wanted to start his own business from home. “While I was working, I always had side projects to work on and serviced small machinery and equipment. After retiring, I wanted to start my own business.”
“Deen Small Engine is a wide variety machine shop, and we carry machines that some larger shops would have. We are also certified for CTC and other company warranty/non-warranty repairs. We are also lucky to be operating in a community like no other”, said Walter. “The support from the residents here has been endless and we are grateful to be in Riverview.”
