Emergency Kit on kitchen table

Residents urged to prepare 72-hour emergency kit

The Town of Riverview is actively monitoring the evolving weather patterns predicted to impact Southeastern New Brunswick over the coming days as a result of Hurricane Lee.

Heavy rainfall is expected Thursday and Friday before the hurricane approaches. While weather patterns are subject to change, it’s important to be prepared. As such, the Town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is now operating at Level 1 – Monitoring.

Residents are reminded to prepare their property in advance of the storm (put away or secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and equipment) and that they should always have a basic emergency kit readily available that includes enough water, nonperishable food, batteries and first aid supplies for 72 hours.

With the potential for high winds, there is a possibility of fallen trees resulting in power outages. In case of a power outage, the following actions are recommended:

• Have non-perishable food and water for each family member including pets, plus flashlights and a battery-operated radio

• Fuel portable generators and vehicles

• Check on neighbours, especially those with disabilities or medical needs
