Recognizing Riverview - Special Awards Gala Evening to Celebrate Community Contributors
(RIVERVIEW, NB) - In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the Town is planning a special Awards Gala on Thursday, April 20. Recognizing Riverview is an event that will combine all community awards under one roof for the very first time. The Gala will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Coverdale Centre. At this event, the following awards will be presented: Riverview Business Awards (NEW), Volunteer Recognition Awards, Youth Appreciation Awards, Jim DeWolfe Community Spirit Award and Sports Wall of Fame Class of 2023 inductee recognition.
While the Business Awards and Sports Wall of Fame inductees have already been selected, there are still three awards that are open to community feedback and submissions. Residents are encouraged to nominate someone they know who is deserving of recognition for their contributions to Riverview, including volunteers, youth, and outstanding community spirit devotees. Submissions must be received by March 17.
Volunteer Recognition
We are asking Riverview organizations to nominate one volunteer that has demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication over this past year. Each nominee will be given a pair of tickets to attend the Awards Gala dinner, where they will receive a certificate of appreciation.
Volunteer Awards are nominated under one of the following five categories:
- Schools & churches
- Sports & youth organizations
- Essential services
- Committees & service clubs
- Charities & non-profits
A selection committee will review the nominee submissions and one deserving volunteer will be selected in each category.
Youth Appreciation Awards
Organizations are also asked to nominate a Riverview youth in Grade 12 who makes a difference in the community. Award winners will be contacted by the selection committee and will be given a pair of tickets to attend the Awards Gala dinner, where they will receive their award.
Nominations will be submitted in one of the following four categories:
- Sports & Athletics
- Arts & Culture
- Volunteerism
- Academics
Jim DeWolfe Community Spirit Award
If you know someone who is devoted to making Riverview an exceptional town, and exudes exemplary community spirit, please consider nominating them for this award. Each year, this prize celebrates a current or former long-time Riverview resident and/or business owner who has made an outstanding contribution to our community. Award winners help shape our community in many ways, including community engagement, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
Created in 2013, the award was named for Jim DeWolfe, a long-time resident whose generous contributions and volunteer efforts in Riverview stretched over six decades. Jim DeWolfe devoted his life to volunteerism, leadership and community growth until he passed away in 2021 at the age of 93. He is remembered and honoured as an inspiring example of how a single person can impact an entire community.
Deadline to submit nominations for all three award categories is March 17, 2023.
Nomination criteria and nomination forms can be found at townofriverview.ca/volunteers.
Due to the expansive award categories, seats are reserved for event participants including nominating organizations, finalists, and award recipients. Tickets won’t be available to purchase for the event, unless otherwise promoted closer to the Gala date (April 20).
