CORRESPONDENCE
- Request to Support Petition – Ted Bartlett, Past President/Advocate Transport Action Atlantic. The letter requests the repair of a portion of railway, and Council passed a motion authorizing the Town Clerk to sign the petition on behalf of Riverview Town Council in support of Transport Action Atlantic.
- Any residents wishing to also sign the petition can access it via the Parliament of Canada website.
RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
- Council passed a motion to approve the adoption of the proposed Emergency Mutual Aid Agreement, entering into agreement with the other proposed parties.
- Council passed a motion to adopt Policy #01-04-3500-39 Virtual Meeting Guidelines Policy, as amended.
BY-LAWS
- Council passed the first reading, by title only, to By-Law 300-7-16, A By-Law to amend the Town of Riverview Zoning By-Law.
- Council passed the second reading, by section only, and third reading, by title only, to By-Law 300-7-17 A By-Law to Amend the Town of Riverview Zoning By-Law.
NEW BUSINESS
- Council moved to adopt the Approval of Canada Community Building Fund Agreement & Capital Investment Plan (2024-2028). This is part of the federal government reporting requirements on how funding is used within the Town’s ten-year plan on projects which align with the criteria outlined by the federal government.
COUNCIL STATEMENTS & INQUIRIES
- Mayor LeBlanc thanked Riverview Fire & Rescue and the Parks & Recreation staff for their support in the Remembrance Day ceremony and reception for veterans on November 11.
- Mayor LeBlanc issued a reminder that a by-election is happening in Riverview and nominations close at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 15.
- Director Ouellet confirmed that Parks & Recreation will be connecting the new crosswalk along Coverdale Road and Golf Course Road to the Riverfront Trail with a gravel path.
- Director Shea answered a question from Councillor Thorne on the Development on Orin Drive, confirming that connection from this subdivision to the Riverfront Trail is being contemplated as part of the Capital Plan for 2025.
- Councillor Johnson issued a reminder that the Santa Claus Parade “Festival of Lights” is at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, and is promising to be a large-scale event with five fun zones, which include music and hot chocolate, along the route. A reminder to residents that during the parade (5 – 9 p.m.) access beyond Main Street will not be accessible via the Gunningsville Bridge.
- The Mayor’s Light Launch as part of Light Up Riverview occurs on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. with many community partners participating in this Riverview holiday tradition.
- Council also received a request from the Veteran’s Association to consider a Remembrance Day crosswalk for next year.
NEXT MEETING
Council meets next for a Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024. The 2025 Municipal Budget public meetings will occur on Thursday, November 28, Saturday, November 30 (if required), and the proposed budget will be passed on Monday, December 9. The meetings will be live-streamed on our website, and the agenda for the meetings will be available prior to the meetings on the Town of Riverview Council Meetings webpage.
