Canvas of Community: Ji Hyang Ryu’s Creative Contribution to Riverview

Ji Hyang Ryu's artistic journey began in Busan, South Korea, where she immersed herself in drawing classes during high school and pursued studies in Natural Sciences. After immigrating to New Brunswick, she spent several years working at a local hospital before reigniting her passion for painting.

Since 2020 Ji has achieved notable success, securing national and provincial grants, winning two provincial art battles, and competing as an Atlantic Canada National Finalist in the Art Battle Canada Championships. Her work has been acquired by the federal government and the Canadian Council for the Arts.

With over a decade of art teaching experience, Ji fulfilled her dream earlier this year by opening her own art studio and gallery in Riverview. “I chose Riverview for its vibrant and supportive community that values creativity and the arts," she explains. “The welcoming atmosphere and close-knit community here have been incredibly encouraging. Being near Moncton also provides access to a broader audience and resources, making Riverview an ideal place to nurture and expand my art studio."

Ji’s background working at a local hospital has given her insight into the value of community support and engagement. The therapeutic benefits of art are incorporated into her classes and workshops, as she wishes to share her inspiration with others.

“I draw inspiration from nature, personal experiences, and the vibrant community around me. The beauty of everyday life, my personal journey's emotions, and the support from my followers and family fuel my creativity. Riverview’s charm and the people I meet also play a significant role in inspiring my work.”

Now with over 100 students, Ji plans to expand her offerings with more workshops and events. Join Ji and her team as they celebrate their grand opening this Saturday, June 29, at 354 Coverdale Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, raffles, and a chance to win original paintings during the event.
