The Town of Riverview is accepting applications for the position Fitness Instructor – Aquatics at the Pat Crossman Memorial Aquatic Centre with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Relations
This role focuses on delivering high-quality instruction for aquatic-based fitness programs. The ideal candidate should primarily be available to teach during daytime hours (8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.), with the possibility of evening or weekend classes. The Fitness Instructor will be responsible for designing and leading 45-minute fitness sessions, ensuring an inclusive and positive experience for participants of varying skill levels.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop and lead aquatic fitness programs tailored to participants' abilities and fitness levels.
Ensure the health and safety of all participants by enforcing facility rules.
Teach and demonstrate correct posture, movements, and techniques to reduce the risk of injury.
Plan routines (45-minutes), select appropriate music, and design exercises that target various muscle groups based on participants' capabilities.
Observe participants and provide feedback on technique and safety improvements.
Instruct on proper breathing techniques during physical exertion.
Guide participants in maintaining safe exertion levels to optimize exercise benefits.
Administer emergency first aid if necessary.
Notify the Recreation Community Coordinator of any accidents or incidents.
Report any broken, malfunctioning, or missing equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
*Certified Fitness Professional with FitnessNB, Canfitpro or equivalent certification with a specialization in a minimum of one of the following: Group Fitness Leadership, Resistance Training Leadership, Older Adult Fitness Leadership, Aquafitness Leadership or Yoga Fitness Leadership.
Certified in Standard Workplace First Aid/CPR.
Familiar with Town of Riverview facilities and general rules and regulations.
Rates of Pay and Hours:
Between $25-$35 per hour
Applicants must be available during the day, Monday- Friday
Interested candidates who do not yet meet the minimum certification requirements are encouraged to apply, provided they are working towards obtaining the necessary training to facilitate aquatic-based fitness courses. A training plan will be developed in collaboration with the Aquatics Coordinator, and the Town may cover associated training costs.
